CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky., Aug. 25, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Warehouse on Wheels (WOW), the largest independent storage trailer rental network in North America, today announced the July 2026 reading of the WOW Supply Chain Activity Index, a monthly composite indicator of U.S. supply chain activity.
The July 2026 WOW Supply Chain Activity Index recorded a reading of 36.4, down 4.4 points from June's reading of 40.8. The decline erased most of the spring rebound that lifted the index from its January 2026 cycle low of 33.4 to a peak of 43.1 in March, a recovery that had already lost steam with a pullback in April and a second dip in June. The latest reading remains firmly in the Contraction zone and sits just three points above the January low, reinforcing signs that the supply chain market has yet to establish sustained momentum.
"We spent the spring climbing back from January's low, and July gave almost all of it back in a single month," said John Brooks, CEO of Warehouse on Wheels. "This kind of reversal is a reminder that the market has not yet found a stable footing. We're still seeing conditions that favor shippers and challenge capacity providers, and the next two readings will tell us whether July was a temporary stumble or the start of something worse."
The index offers a monthly gauge of supply and demand balance across the U.S. supply chain and WOW's network of 6,000+ customers. Readings below 45 point to conditions that favor shippers over capacity providers, including softer demand, more available capacity, and downward pressure on pricing.
July 2026 Supply Chain Market Signals:
- The spring rebound has been erased. After climbing from January's cycle low to a March peak, the index pulled back in April, partially recovered in May, dipped again in June, then fell sharply in July, wiping out nearly all of the gains made since January.
- Supply chain activity remains in contraction. The 36.4 reading falls between 30 and 45, the Contraction zone, reflecting a slowdown in the physical movement of goods rather than loosening capacity.
- The market has not established sustained momentum. The index has moved unevenly since January, with two pullbacks already this year, and July's steep decline suggests the broader recovery remains fragile.
- The next several months will be critical. With the index now back near its January low, upcoming readings will help determine whether July represented a temporary setback or the beginning of another period of deterioration across the logistics and warehousing market.
The WOW Supply Chain Activity Index is compiled from nine weighted data series, including WOW's own Deployment Ratio, LMI Warehousing Utilization and Transportation Prices, the Cass Freight Index for shipments, and broader manufacturing and industrial indicators, combined into a single monthly reading on a 0 to 100 scale.
